Speech/Language Evaluations

We utilize both informal and formal assessment measures, including child/parent/caregiver interview, clinical observations, play-based assessment when necessary, as well as standardized tests to evaluate your speech & language skills.. We look at your child’s strengths and needs in different areas of communication. A written evaluation, recommendations, and strategies for your child’s specific communication profile is provided. Evaluation encompasses interacting, observing, assessing, playing, using standardization instruments as indicated, all in order to understand your child and how best to move forward. Please be assured it is not necessary that your child perform “on command”.

Speech/Myofunctional Evaluation:

A myofunctional evaluation includes a thorough assessment of your child’s oral structures and how they are used for activities such as eating, speaking, and breathing. Your child will perform a variety of activities such as eating a snack and participating in an articulation (speech sound) assessment. After the initial evaluation, sessions are designed around specific goals that are drafted by the therapist and a written report will be provided.

Feeding Assessment:

Feeding involves all the steps it takes to get food off the plate and into your mouth, while swallowing includes chewing, moving the food down the throat, and protecting the airway that leads into the lungs. If your child has any aversion to certain foods or has trouble swallowing without coughing, your pediatrician may suggest you visit a speech-language pathologist. During the assessment, we will take an in depth look into your child’s oral senesory motor skills. These include biting, chewing, moving the tongue to the back molars (lateralizing), and swallowing, as well as using age appropriate skills such as using a spoon, cup, and straw. We will also rule out a lip and/or tongue tie as a contributing factor to a feeding disorder. Therapy

We use evidence based treatment approaches and customize a plan based on you child’s strengths and needs. All therapy is individualized to meet your child’s unique learning style, incorporate his/her personal interests, and capitalize on his/her strengths to support growth and development of his/her skills.

Payment

In order to provide you with the highest level of services possible, we are currently an out-of-network provider with all insurance companies. However, this does not mean that your insurance company will not cover some/all services. Payment for services is provided directly by the family to The Speech Dynamic via our secure online portal. Once payment is received, families are provided a Paid Invoice with treatment/evaluation service and diagnosis codes. Please call your insurance company to find out if you are eligible for out-of-network speech language therapy and/or evaluation reimbursement. Ask if your insurance company accepts CPT code 92507(speech/language therapy) or 92526 (feeding therapy) and if they require an ICD-10 code (furnished from an evaluation). Should insurance companies require additional documentation to authorize, justify, and/or extend services, we are happy to provide the necessary paperwork. If pursuing an evaluation only, ask if your company accepts code 92523

A shy child speaks up loud and clear
At the age of 2, my son’s preschool teacher noticed he was a little behind in his speech, he was muttering in a low tone. It was hard for anyone to understand what he was trying to tell us. When I was told he needed therapy, I was a bit nervous because my son is very shy around people he is not familiar with. I was afraid the speech therapist would get nowhere with him, but boy was I wrong. By the end of his first session with Ms. Brooke my son was comfortable with her; he did not want the session to end. Ms. Brooke took the time to research new ideas and activities that would accommodate my son’s needs to help him open his mouth when speaking. She focused the entire session on making sure he practiced the ability to speak up loud and clear while still having fun and kept him engaged. He only had therapy for 5 short months; Ms. Brooke gave him the confidence he needed to speak up. He continues to ask to see Ms. Brooke, he misses her so much. She left him with such great moments and experiences that I do not think he will ever forget her.
